INDUCTED!
Today as of 1:30 John Elway isn’t lonely anymore in Canton, Ohio. Gary Zimmerman a Denver Broncos tackle has been inducted as the second Denver Bronco into the Football Hall of Fame. He was inducted with WR Art Monk, CB Darrell Green, CB Emmitt Thomas, LB Andre Tippett, and DE Fred Dean. They make up the Football Hall of Fame Class of 2008.
Gary Zimmerman has been one of the best Denver Broncos players ever. He was a star tackle for 12 seasons. He has the rare honor of being named to two different All Decade Teams for both the Broncos and the Vikings. In 1996 he helped lead the NFL in rushing yards. In 1987 he was named Offensive Lineman of The Year.
He quoted about the announcement “I never looked at myself as this type of a player.”
Well he was this type of a player and a good one at that. He has been the one of the best since college when he played for Oregon. He was selected in the first round (the 3rd pick overall) by the Giants who later traded signing rights to the Vikings much like the Colts trading John Elways signing rights to us.
He absolutely loved playing the game. He said “I would have done this for free it was so fun and challenging.” Zimmerman is one of the best Broncos ever and is now another Hall of Famer. He was a finalist along with Bronco Randy Gradishar who was turned down.
