Team Captain Analysis
I haven’t said it much but I have been looking forward to seeing who would be the team captains for the Broncos. I have to say that some of them are quite surprising.
The Broncos chose to elect QB Jay Cutler, and CB Champ Bailey as returning team captains. This is not shocking in the least as they are both stars of the team and have become great leaders over the years.
But the surprising part was our new team captains. They are WILL D.J Williams, and backup TE Daniel Graham. Now D.J has never acted as a big leader he never did anything that would exclude him. He is well behaved and the second best player on the Defense.
But Daniel Graham is just unheard of. I mean it is one thing to choose a TE. But a backup TE! Sure he is decent and has shown good leadership skills in the past but I still don’t think that a backup should be leading this team onto the field week in and week out.
But when you do think of it, what other team captain would you choose? We have broken it down with the first two or 3 players at each position.
- QB: Jay Cutler, Patrick Ramsey: Jay Cutler is already a team captain and know living breathing sole on earth would choose a backup QB as a team captain. Especially Pat Rat.
- RB: Selvin Young, Andre Hall: Selvin Young while great has not shown that he is a star yet or a great leader. I could come but for now is just not going to happen. Andre Hall has the same thing going for him with the title backup too.
- WR: Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, Brandon Stokley, Darrell Jackson: Brandon Marshall is no leader right now with a slew of off field issues. Eddie Royal is a rookie. Brandon Stokley is a good slot receiver and leader but is just not right for it. Darrell Jackson well… he is a first year 4th string WR.
- TE: Tony Scheffler, Daniel Graham: This is all to explain Graham so we will not talk about him. Scheffler while talented is young and is injury prone. But I do not doubt his skills as a leader.
- OL: Tom Nalen, Ben Hamilton, Ryan Harris, Chris Kuper, Casey Wiegman: Nalen should be a captain but is injured. Hamilton I think would be a great team captain and thought he might be a new one! Ryan Harris is totally unproven at everything. Chris Kuper is just not ready and Wiegmann is in his first year with the Broncos.
So as you can see the only other choice would be Ben Hamilton or maybe Selvin Young. But for now I guess Graham will have to do.
Mike Shanahan also announced Special Teams captains. Mike Leach will be the team captain for now but Shanahan did add that it will probably change week to week.

sweetie, first off, the team votes captains not the coach. secondly graham is not a backup tight end, he is the starting!!! he was captain in New England with Brady and getting voted here obviously by his teammates is a sign of respect. he must do something great in the locker room as well as on the field to be voted by his teammates. know your facts before you post this crap. daniel graham is unheard of? u r obviously in the dark when it comes to football!!!! why would they pay someone $30 million if they were unheard of. go check his stats. he did wonders in NE! now he’ll do wonders here in denver. i was embarrassed reading this story… ashamed actually that fans here in denver dont even know thier facts about thier own players!!! sad…

Have you heard of Tony Scheffler? You know the TE who just this week got 2 Touchdowns and ever since half way through the last season has been starting. The reason he is not listed so on the depth chart is that he was injured. I never said that Daniel Graham was unheard of but a TE especially a backup.
“Sure he is decent and has shown good leadership skills in the past but I still don’t think that a backup should be leading this team onto the field week in and week out.” I never said he didn’t have good leadership skills.
I never said that the coach chose them. I did say that he announced it. There is a big difference. Graham is not bad and I like him as much as anybody but a team captain… Come on… Before you go trashing this site and other Broncos fans actually read this.
