A Bit of Nepotism In Denver

Get Josh McDaniels Out Of Patriots Shirts
There seems to be a lot nepotism in the NFL today and Denver might be the most famous for this right now. Not only is the front office run by both Jeff Goodman and Jim Goodman but now Josh McDaniels has hired his younger brother as an assistant coach.
I am not too upset of this but Ben McDaniels’ coaching resume is what worries me. McDaniels is a QB Coach for a high school and I am not sure just how well that will transition to the NFL.If in fact his new position is QB coach and this is why we fired Jeremy Bates I won’t be happy about it but I don’t think McDaniels wanted him.
It is all over the place whether in San Francisco with Mike Singletary and his nephew “Vantz” or in Detroit where former Lions head coach Rod Marinelli refused to fire his son in law and defensive coordinator of the team. This leads me into my next point.
It is very risky for head coaches to bring in their family members because they refuse to fire them putting their own jobs in jeopardy. Don’t get me wrong I would do this too if I was head coach and one of my family members were you know, another football coach.
When you look at McDaniels side of this, his brother Ben with such a small coaching position didn’t look to be going anywhere but by this nepotism now Ben happens to have a sudden chance to climb up the coaching ladder we call the NFL at a younger age than it ever looked like for him.
So yeah, I hope that Ben does well for his sake, Jay Cutler’s sake, the offenses sake, and maybe more than anything Josh McDaniels sake. While this was unnecessary and quite a risky move hopefully it works out for all sides of this and Jay Cutler benefits from this move.

You’re right Garrett. It is a little unnerving when you find out that the new quarterbacks coach’s only experience was a QB coach in high school. he wasn;t even a head coach there. he was a QB coach. its a little scary.
Totally agree Garrett. This was a bad move by a guy who so far hasn’t made very bad staffing decisions. This was an unnecessary risk based not on skill at all but just family. I hope that in the future we won’t regret this…
okay, i am glad to see that i am not crazy here and the only one who sees this. the one thing that is possibly keeping me from getting really worked up over this decision is that i don’t believe there is a HUGE transition from QB Coach to QB Coach no matter what the level. It is still risky but it is not going from QB Coach to OC. Also I just read that Ben was a QB at Kent St. for two years which also makes me feel a bit better. still though…
Wow, this is crazy
